DIESEL PERFUME & COLOGNE -- A BRAND HISTORY
In 1978 Renzo Rosso and Adriano Goldschmied founded the Diesel design company in Molvena, Italy. Initially formed to produce exceptional apparel for the young adult, Diesel eventually became a lifestyle brand featuring its own line of accessories, undergarments and fragrances.
In 1985, Renzo Rosso acquired complete control of the company and in 1988 made the bold move of hiring Wilbert Das straight out of design school to handle his Male, Accessories, Leather, and Kids lines. Today, Das is Diesel’s Creative Director. In 1991 Diesel initiated its international market strategy and by 1996, it had opened its flagship store on Lexington Avenue in New York City.
As one of the foremost denim companies in the world, all of Diesel’s jeans are manufactured in Italy. A multi-product company, Diesel currently has many partnerships, including licenses with L’Oreal for fragrances, Fossil for watches and jewelry, Safilo for eyewear, Mast Industries Inc. for underwear and Moroso nd Foscarini for their line of home products. They have also produced a line of jeans in 2008 for athletic wear giant, Adidas.
In 2008, Diesel became one of the first designers to form a partnership with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe to sell their designs in Sony’s virtual world, PlayStation Home.
